The Perks – Changing ‘Amenity Spaces’

May 30, 2013 by Matt Manuel

The changing needs of downtown buyers call for a re-think of 'amenity spaces'

Should you change your amenity priorities if you’re condo-hunting in both the suburbs and the downtown core? Agent Paul Johnston (pauljohnston.com) weighs your options.

“Condo amenity spaces are super-critical in buildings that are marooned in under-served neighbourhoods. Bring in the theatres and golf simulators and wine-tasting rooms, because they’re likely nowhere nearby.

However, when I’m selling a building in Trinity Bellwoods or the Beach, people don’t ask about party rooms. They ask about the best bars and the local cross-fit gym.

Some buildings go to great lengths to create sexy amenities, but people want to live where their needs are met by the immediate area. We don’t need to bring stuff in to distract them, because there’s a vibrant, engaging, entertainment-rich neighbourhood right outside their doors.”
